Constant Battel

Today, I came across a man who was very upset, looked very taken back, very unhappy, and very unsettled, as friendly man I am naturally, I went near him and asked him, “I hope I am not overstepping my boundaries by asking, is everything is alright?”, and he said to me, no, but you wouldn’t understand me, I’ve lost my dear aunt who was very near and dear to me.

I wasn’t alarmed, neither this story let me veer me, rather I remained calm and I said to him, “I am very sorry for your loss, would you like water or anything I am here for you?” This disconsolate man tells me very rudely, “you have no idea how it feels when you lose your loved ones”, and as I realised wariness in the conversation thereby wanting to quell the conversation quickly as possible, I said, ‘I am sorry for asking you in this time of grieving’ (But inside me I was thinking, you try me, I have lost my sister when she was just 20 years old, in her tender life, when life had just begun for her, I loved my sister and we were so close), despite the burning fire in my heart, I wanted this man to grieve and see his pain of loss is the greatest things amongst all and I let him alone.

Dear readers, In our lives, many of us have lost many things, some might be of great value (life) or some might be like sweets or pen or maybe a pet too. Losing something is very painful, it hurts so much so that it will tear your heart out, as much as it could take your life too. In the Bible in Mark 8:36, it is written “For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world yet lose his life?”, this is a proof that no one can preserve life, no one can hold life forever, certainly the life will slip away of our flesh and the question is, what then? Are you aware?

We human, reason and fumble within and ourselves with our logic, the epistemology of every topic that is questioned, but have we dug deep within us to find what is our life made for or made of? Simple as it seems but there is more to that meets the eye. Many people are happy with the things that meet their daily needs, but some desire more then that is there to meet their daily lives, some are happy with the material wealth but some with the unseen wealth, some are happy with good health but some want more than a health, some are happy today and not sure of tomorrow but some seek for tomorrow. Tomorrow could be a sunny day or rainy day, for some it doesn’t matter but for some, it matters a lot, people’s today depends upon what would be tomorrow and tomorrow depends upon today. Every good farmer prepares for tomorrow, every good businessman prepares for tomorrow, every good student prepares for tomorrow, every good mother prepare for tomorrow, every good sports person prepares for tomorrow likewise every prudent and sagacious person who envisage for tomorrow or the future would be living today, in the future hope of tomorrow, certainly for sure we do not know what tomorrow will bring to us in our lives, but we can always prepare for the best.

Dear friends, are you ready for tomorrow? Are you prepared for the future? Only the lazy person claims, “There’s a lion out there! If I go outside, I might be killed!” Proverbs 22:13. Not wanting to be prepared for tomorrow is laziness. As the wisdom from Proverbs writes that lazy person hates work: “The sluggard’s craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work” (21:25); he loves to sleep: “As a door turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed” (26:14);  he is the talks the talk of the thousand tell: “The sluggard says, ‘There is a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets’” (26:13); he is the waster of time and energy: “He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great waster” (18:9 KJV); he believes he is wise, but is a fool: “The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer discreetly” (26:16).
Proverbs also tells us the result for the laziness: A lazy person becomes a servant (or debtor): “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor” (12:24); his future is undefinable: “A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing” (20:4); his future could be poverty: “The soul of the lazy man desires and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich” (13:4 KJV).

Here my point is not about the laziness that leads to failure, poor and of the aesthetic view of the world, but my point is yet living this aesthetic driven life we ought to ask ourselves, what is tomorrow going to be for me real and eternal. We see our physical life but every physical life are governed by the spiritual or metaphysical. Are we ready for the next step of our Pneumatology? If we are, see you later

Man is greedy

There are many explanations about greed…but today we will explore about the impact on the stages of a life of man with an example.

Ever wondered why man lives longer than animals (donkey, dog & Owl)? This maybe one of the good examples of portraying the greediness that lies in man. God created different living creatures on earth and left them to live on earth. The living creatures were donkey, dog, owl and man.

So, the God decided to give each creature with life span of 40 years to each. Donkey then realized it’s too long for him to have 40 years. So, he went to God and asked for reducing his life span. So, God said, “Okay, I will remove your 20 years of span.

At the mean time, man went to God as he was intelligent but was greedy and full of covetousness. So, man went to God and asked for more life because he wanted to live more. So, God granted his wish by adding 20 years (total of 60 years) more, which was compensated by donkeys’ life.

Similarly, dog was also frustrated to live his life for 40 years. So, he decided to go to God and ask to reduce his life span. So, he was also granted to reduce his life span by 20 years. Again, man went and said “Could you increase my life a little bit more?”. So, God granted his wish and the man could live further more of 20 years (total of 80 years). Similarly, owl didn’t want to live for 40 years.

However, man still wanted more life. So, he could spend 20 years more (total of 100years). Now, lets think more. Man lived for 40 years as God initially gave him 40 years…but at the end he is going to live for 100 years because of his greed.

The table below will explain clearly the 60 years acquired from different animals by man.

Acquired from (20 years) Explanation
Donkey After 40 years of age man needs to work like a donkey for future of family.
Dog After 60 years of age man becomes old and everyone around starts to go away and mock about because of the age.
Owl After 80 years of age, man will have high probability of eyesight problems.

If only man hadn’t been so greedy, the life would be so different. So, the bible says,

Proverbs 23:25

A greedy man stirs up strife,

but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.

Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool,

but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.

Whoever gives to the poor will not want,

but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.

When the wicked rise, people hide themselves,

but when they perish, the righteous increase.
