Okay, we know there was no BMW or Ferrari at that time….however, there was horses, which looked good, faster….
However, If we look in the bible verse, Jesus wants a donkey to ride around. Have we ever thought why he wanted a donkey?
In the holy bible it is written.
Then Jesus sent two disciples, Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me
Why would Jesus want a donkey to ride? God seemed so keen to ride a donkey. So, if we look carefully on the characteristics of a donkey.
Donkeys have distinct characteristics.
Hard worker, strong and intelligent
Donkeys are stronger than a horse of the same size. It could carry lots of things required while travelling as Jesus was travelling all the time.
Donkeys don’t like being kept alone. So, it would not be distracted while preaching around in the crowds.
Concentration and curiosity
Donkeys have better concentration, i.e. they are less easily startled (unlike horses). So, donkey was more reliable and trustworthy to travel with.
Donkeys have highly developed sense of self-preservation. Hence difficult to force or frighten. While training a donkey, action and words plays important role. By doing this they can trust to be protected from harm. So, donkey needs a bond with its owner.
Dogs are scared (Natural aversion to canine)
Dogs are scared away easily/ naturally by a donkey. So, it would help Jesus on his way to the preaching without being entangled by astray dogs around villages at that time.
Donkeys can hear from 60 miles away as they have bigger ears than horses.
Donkeys can survive deserts
Donkeys have a different digestive system, which can break down inedible vegetation and extract moisture from food efficiently. So, while travelling with limited food and water, donkey was the most efficient means of transport at that time.
